U.S. Official: COVID-19 Vaccine Manufacturing Could Begin By Late Summer

In hopes of a late-stage COVID-19 vaccine candidate hitting the 50% efficacy threshold set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. drugmakers who have partnered with the U.S. government could begin to manufacture doses of a preventative treatment by the end of summer, Reuters reported.

An unnamed U.S. official told the news agency that vaccine manufacturing under development in conjunction with the federal government’s Operation Warp Speed program is likely to begin within the next four to six weeks – although no vaccine for the novel coronavirus has yet to be approved by the FDA.
